The nights are drawing in, the mornings are getting darker and the leaves are turning that beautiful golden orange. But that doesn’t mean you have to put all your garden furniture away just yet- there are lots of ways you can enjoy your outdoor living space even when the cold, dark months are upon us.
Newington Green estate agent, M&M Property says “Your garden is really there to be enjoyed all year round, and the colder months add a whole new feeling to the space that it’s a shame to miss.” Granted, there won’t be quite as much colour and vibrancy as you’ll find in Spring and Summer, but Autumn Winter have a drama and just as much beauty of their own.
A lot of garden furniture available now is also totally weatherproof, meaning you can use it all year round. Rattan is particularly good and you can find some lovely cosy pods and hammocks which you and your guests can snuggle up in when the nights become cooler. XXX of
Halloween is a great place to start. “Bring a touch of colour and humour to your garden with bright lanterns, pumpkins and some spooky chimes- perfect for when the kids have been trick or treating or when you simply want to make the most of the opportunity for a celebration with friends and family” suggests Best Gapp.
An essential addition to any winter garden is warmth. There’s little comfort or enjoyment in sitting around shivering, so a firepit or patio heaters are a great investment. You can also bring out some comfy fake fur throws and add some fairy lights to add to the cosy, welcoming effect that a real fire or snuggly heater will bring.
Of course, not all party guests are keen on the great outdoors during the colder months so be mindful of everyone’s different tastes and think about bringing some energising entertainment into the proceedings. A few bottles of schnapps , hot chocolate or soup always go down well and can put a really fun twist on outdoor entertaining.
Perhaps the ultimate in outdoor entertaining though is a hot tub. There are few things in life that feel quite as decadent as lying back in some hot frothy bubbles under a twinkly starlit sky, and its particularly magical if it snows (not that we can guarantee a white Christmas but it’s nice to dream).
Hot tubs are also a fantastic selling point if you’re considering moving. Home improvements can add significant value to your property, and a hot tub is up there with swimming pools and cinema rooms if you really want to create a wow factor.
