Although the majority of blinds are quite simple to clean, for some reason there seems to be a little more concern expressed when it comes to cleaning vertical blinds. This might be because of the way that put together or it might be because of the sheer size of them (especially when they are hung over doors), but in this blog we are hoping that we can help to put your mind at ease because cleaning vertical blinds should be just as simple as cleaning any other style.
One of the first things you need to think about is the material that you’re blind is made of and also if it is waterproof. You can find this out by looking on the packaging, looking for tags that might be attached to the material, or by contacting the company that provided you with the blinds in the first place.
When you know the material that you’re blind is made of you will be able to make a more informed choice about the style of cleaning from some of the methods that I’m going to list below.
Dusting
This is a safe method of cleaning that can be used on all types of material and on any type of blind. It is something that should be done regularly and thoroughly to avoid the build-up of dirt.
When dusting your vertical blind start from the very top and gently dust downwards to get the best results. You can use any type of soft cloth to do this however, choosing one that naturally attracts dust will make your life a lot easier and the job a lot quicker.
A Damp Cloth and Soapy Water
You can use a damp cloth for more stubborn stains that dusting simply won’t remove but it is recommended that if you are going down this route you should remove the blinds from the wall and lay them on a flat surface to make life easier and to get better results. Be sure to wring out the cloth frequently as this will avoid any streaks being left.
As well as the two methods mentioned above you will also find that a majority of DIY stores or supermarkets carry a range of specialist products to help you in cleaning vertical blinds. Many of these products are designed to try and help you to keep your blinds clean in a more convenient way but we will leave it up to you to decide if you would like to spend the extra money on one of these instead of using the simple cleaning methods mentioned above.
One thing that you should always remember is to keep your vertical blinds either hanging or on a flat surface. Rolling them up or bending them in any way during the cleaning process can prevent them from hanging properly once you are finished.
