If you have a classic car, then you know how much blood, sweat, and tears went into restoring and maintaining it. Even if you haven’t done much work on it yourself, there is a good chance that it has been well taken care of throughout its life. So, to protect your investment, you want to find the right custom car cover to keep it in excellent condition for years to come.
However, there are a few considerations that you must have in mind before buying a new cover so that you can be sure that you’re getting the right kind of protection.
Generic vs. Custom
In the world of car covers, there are plenty of models that are custom-fit for your particular ride. However, because of their exact specifications, they tend to be more expensive than generic options.
So, with that in mind, can you save a bit of money by going with a standard cover instead of a custom molded one? For our money, the answer is yes. Unless the generic unit doesn’t provide 100% coverage, you should be fine.
Outdoor vs. Indoor
If you store your car inside all of the time (which we highly recommend), then a cover is simply there to make it easier to keep clean. However, if you do plan on storing your car outside for any period, you will need material that can withstand the elements.
Keep in mind things like the sun, wind, and rain. Sand and dirt can also be swept up and get into your vehicle’s nooks and crannies, so you want a cover that provides as much protection as possible.
Ideally, it will be waterproof and repel UV rays, and it won’t blow off very easily. Also, make sure that it’s somewhat breathable so that moisture trapped inside will be able to ventilate, rather than grow mildew.
Bottom Line
Whether it’s a cloth car cover or a weather shielded material, having something on your classic vehicle will ensure that it stays in peak condition for much longer. Considering the time and money you’ve put into it, there’s no question that a cover is necessary.
