Easy Snack Ideas For Travelling

Christmas is fast approaching and many of us will be making plans to visit family and friends over the festive season. But, in order to do this, this means travelling! No matter if you’re a lone traveller or are packing up the car with the whole family in tow, when you’re travelling long distances, you’re going to need some snacks and drinks to keep you fueled (no pun intended) for the journey ahead.

Ensuring that you are well hydrated and have eaten healthy snacks will keep your concentration levels at their best and means that you’re less likely to tire easily. Plus, if you’re travelling with young children, having an abundance of snacks to hand can keep them entertained and prevent any meltdowns! Travelling on an empty stomach only causes distractions, so it’s best to pack a few quick and easy snacks that can be eaten whilst driving or easily passed around the car to your passengers. With that in mind, here are some quick and easy snack ideas for travelling this festive season.

What Kind Of Snacks Should I Pack For Travelling?

When you’re travelling, you want to ensure that any snacks you pack are ones that are easy to eat on the go, that won’t spoil or that are messy. Avoid things with sauces or dips that can be dropped or spilt in the car or foods that are particularly pungent! You also want to make sure that, if you pack anything that is sticky, you have plenty of wipes to hand. When travelling with kids, try to give them their own snacks in a handy little lunchbox that you can give to them when they’re hungry.

Healthy Trail Mix

Foods that are high in fibre and protein will keep you fuller for longer and keep your energy levels high. Trail mixes can be adjusted to suit your personal preferences and tastes, so if you don’t like something, you don’t need to include it! Plus, if you put it in a tub, you can just grab it as and when.

Things such as dried fruits, nuts, chocolate chips, pretzels, granola clusters and even mini marshmallows or popcorn can make for a great mix combination and can provide both hits of sweet and savoury. You can create a trail mix for kids, too. Either give them their own little tub of the one you make or make them their own with things such as raisins, cheese strings, dried cereal, strawberry laces and crackers.

Rice Cakes

Rice cakes are a great snack to eat on the go. They are low in calories and can be combined with a number of other foods to make for a tasty snack, plus you can even get flavoured ones such as caramel or chocolate. With plain rice cakes, you can add things such as cheese, sliced meats, hummus or cream cheese. With the flavoured sweet rice cakes, these can be enjoyed with things such as peanut butter, thin apple or banana slices or even yoghurt.

Savoury Snacking

Sometimes, sugary snacks are all you need when looking for a pick me up when travelling long journeys. But when you’ve got a hankering for savoury snacks, often nothing else will do. It’s good to pack a mixture of snacks when you’re heading on a long journey, consisting of both sweet and savoury snacks, so that you have something to hand no matter what you fancy!

Creating a savoury snack box that’s full of flavour and packed with fibre, carbs and protein can keep any future hunger pangs at bay. Pork pies, cocktail sausages, mini scotch eggs, jerky, cheese cubes and mini breadsticks are more substantial in terms of snacks and are perfect for long journeys!

Simple Snacks

Sometimes, simple is best. You want to reduce any hassle and make your journey as stress-free as much as possible, so packing quick, easy and simple snacks is the best way to ensure a smooth journey experience. You can’t go wrong with vegetable crudites and hummus, crackers and cheese, dried and fresh fruit or even just a biscuit selection to enjoy with a hot drink on the go! Snacks that can be enjoyed by all the family reduces the packing you need to do, plus means that there is less fussing and bickering between children if they see that one has something the other doesn’t!
