So, grass is just grass isn’t it? That will be the response of many people when they are asked what sort of area they live in and what sort of grass do they want to lay? The reality is that there are more types of grass than you can imagine and for most they only option from ordinary green grass will be blue grass as they will have heard about it from songs. Ask them about the differences and there will be no response. This is where it is important that salesmen have all the details needed as they will be able to sell the correct product. Grass should not be something that you stress about, but you do want to get the best you can.
Selecting the Grass
There will be limits to the types of grass you can have as some of them will be best suited to certain areas. The climate is a big issue and this will mean you get to choose either warm weather grasses- Bahia grass and Bermuda fall into this category or cool weather grasses and these include Kentucky blue grass and Ryegrass. The amount of rainfall will also need to be taken into account as some will thrive even if they are left without a lot of water, whereas others will not cope and will die without plenty of watering. The last thing to consider is the amount of sun that the grass will receive. Certain types can cope without a lot of sunshine while others will wither and die.
Your Usage
The next thing to consider is what the grass will be used for. If you will be walking and sitting on it for long periods of time, you will need a different type than you would if you were just going to be looking at it. If you are going to be using it a lot then it will need to be a strong one and this is likely to be high maintenance. It is pointless choosing a grass that does not need a lot of work, and suggesting that the children will not play on it as it a lot harder to make that happen than you would think. It will be better to think the other way – it is going to get a lot of wear and then if that does not happen, you will have less wok to do than you were concerned about.
Making The Choice
At first it may seem that there are far too many types of grass for you to make an informed decision, but by the time you set out what you want from it, a lot will have dropped off the list. It is not likely that you will be able to get it down to just the one type of grass, but it will be a much easier decision to make than you initially thought it would be. Once you have made that choice, you can look forward to the grass being laid and then either setting about using it, or enjoying looking at it from the house.
