Dermatophyte is a group of fungi that causes Athlete’s Foot and its medical name is Tinea pedis. Athlete’s foot is a contagious fungal infection. Itching, scaling, burning, pain, redness and sometimes oozing are its common symptoms. It is an infection more prevalent in the toes and the soles of the feet, but it may spread to the palms, groin and body. Use antifungal creams, lotions and powder to treat it or take oral medications in severe cases. Prevention techniques include keeping feet clean and dry, avoiding moist environment and walking barefoot in public area besides changing shoes and socks regularly.
