Windows can make all the difference in a guest’s first impression of your home. Clean windows make a room looks bigger and brighter, while a dirty window can make even the most extravagant room looks drab and gloomy. Unfortunately, however, quite a lot of homeowners do not pay good attention to window-cleaning, and only doing the barest minimum to make sure that the windows of their home looks presentable. This can be attributed to the often false assumption that thoroughly cleaning your windows take a lot of time and energy, as well as investing in some heavy-duty window cleaner if you want to have a sparkling window, and a lot of people think that they payoff is not worth it. However, this cannot be further from the truth. Getting clean and sparkling windows is actually a pretty simple and straightforward process.
To begin cleaning your windows, you need a cleaning solution. Now, most people assume that this means buying a commercial window cleaner, but you can make your own window cleaning solution by adding some dishwashing liquid to a bucket of warm water, and this homemade solution will do the job just as nicely as any commercial window cleaner. Remember to mix the solution gently, as you want it to keep the suds to the minimum.
If you have huge picture windows, you can have an easier and shorter time cleaning them using strip applicator. The size of the applicator’s cloth head means that it can soak up the cleaning solution more easily, and you can clean off your windows without the risk of scratching it. To wipe it up, a lot of people recommends the use of squeegee in a reverse S pattern, making sure that you clean the blade of the squeegee with a lint-free rag after each stroke to make sure that it does not leave any streak. To clean the edges of the glass, you might also use chamois cloth or similar to soak up any remaining wetness before leaving it to dry.
For multi-pane windows, you can switch your strip applicator with soft bristle brush or natural sponge, which are more absorbent that the synthetic variant. Scrub each of your window pane gently in one direction, from the upper left part of the pane to the bottom right. Remember to clean up the corners of the pane as well, cleaning off any dust and dirt that might have gathered there. After that, you can use squeegee and chamois cloth to wipe off and dry the windows.
In case of stubborn spots of your windows, such as hard water runoff or other mineral stains that can be hard to remove using the regular method, you can clean them off easily and without getting frustrated using special cleansing powder containing oxalic acid, which you then mix up with water until it turns into a paste. After that, all you have to do is to put a little of it on a wet towel and rub away the spot.
